EYFS

Curriculum

A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and Montessori ethos enables us to provide the foundation for children to use their strengths and interests as they grow.  The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic wellbeing.

The curriculum includes the following:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Literacy
Maths
Physical Development
Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

Ofsted refers to the EYFS when carrying out inspections and reporting on the quality and standards of provision.
Parents should have an awareness of the EYFS so that they know what and how their child will be learning, and what sort of support they should expect from an early years setting.

There were changes to the EYFS framework in September 2021.  The reasons behind the changes are that they:

• Are expected to improve outcomes for all children at age five, but particularly the outcomes for disadvantaged children, and in the areas of language and literacy.
• Will reduce workload, including unnecessary paperwork, so that those working in the early years sector can spend more time with the children in their care.
• Will make the Early Learning Goals clearer, more specific, easier to assess, and stronger predictors of future attainment.

Language Development

Language development is an important part of child development. It supports your child's ability to communicate. It also supports your child's ability to express and understand feelings. At Kinderworld our setting has achieved the Elklan accredited communication friendly status. Elklan Communication Friendly accreditation is awarded to settings and schools that have trained and support all their staff in communication and language development. Kinderworld practitioners have also undertaken WELLCOMM and ECAT training. WellComm is a complete speech and language toolkit for to be used with children from 6 months to 6 years. The WellComm system is an approach that operates in partnership with parents. A means of tracking the progress of all children in the class, regardless of ability.
Kinderworld offers a range of activities and interactions to promote communication in the way the child learns best.
Kinderworld introduced Spanish from September 2021 for the 3-5 year olds.

Physical Activity and Outdoor play

To promote physical development Kinderworld has a large, exciting outdoor area that covers all areas of the EYFS as well as curiosity and awe and wonder. Large play areas with flowerbeds for children to have hands-on experience of planting, weeding, learning about growth and caring for our environment. We have a beautiful sensory garden that stimulates the senses with many different textures, colours, smells and a story corner. We have a large netted area for ball play. We have climbing frames, wooden bridge, slides bikes and a wooden pirate ship which all help to stimulate children's involvement and imagination. Our Baby unit have their own garden area that offers shade and a chance to explore.

Kinderworld Pets

We have an aquarium in the nursery to help develop children’s understanding of the need to care for animals.

Interactions

We understand at Kinderworld that effective, meaningful interactions with children are vital to their wellbeing and development. It is how we build trusting relationships with our children and families. Quality interactions such as the way we use our body and voice, how we listen, pause, and reflect on children’s learning with them can help us extend and deepen their thinking, provoke new learning and create relationships.
